Highlights from my 34 Gallery interview
In this conversation with 34 Gallery, I share how my practice grew from bass and lo-fi hip-hop into illustration and AI-assisted work, why I see art as self-care, and the intentions behind Weaving Wellness, my winning selection for the July Open Call Reflections of Childhood.
Key takeaways
- Background: I’m a self-taught multidisciplinary artist; my journey began over 14 years ago in bass music and lo-fi hip-hop, and now spans music, writing, photography, and digital/AI art.
- Process & purpose: My work is closely tied to emotions, philosophical reflections, and political thoughts — made first for self-care and self-understanding, and shared to uplift others.
- Turning point: After overcoming years of deep depression, my illustrations shifted toward vibrant color and positivity.
- Exhibition win: Weaving Wellness was selected for 34 Gallery’s Reflections of Childhood; I’m also serving as UNV Online Personnel with the gallery.
- Advice: Create for yourself, embrace imperfections, keep learning, seek community, and be resilient — art is a journey.
Selected quotes
“My creative process is closely connected to my emotions, philosophical reflections, and political thoughts. My art represents my perspective on the world and how it could be improved.”
“I began creating illustrations during a period when I finally felt truly happy with myself after overcoming years of deep depression. This newfound joy is reflected in my work, which now features vibrant colors and positivity.”
“Don’t create for others; create for your own well-being, using art as a positive outlet to communicate with yourself… Art is a journey, not a destination. Embrace each step.”
About Weaving Wellness
“For Reflections of Childhood, I created a piece featuring a young girl weaving in her bedroom as a metaphor for the journey to the self. All creative outlets lead to a sort of meditation… the character is essentially in her own mind, dreaming about who she truly is and what she wants, crafting her own self.”
